چکیده

In this paper we consider a graph optimization problem called minimum monopoly problem, in which it is required to find a minimum cardinality set S ⊆ V , such that, for each u ∈ V , |N [u] ∩ S| |N [u]|/2 in a given graph G = (V ,E). We show that this optimization problem does not have a polynomial-time approximation scheme for k-regular graphs (k 5), unless P=NP. We show this by establishing two L-reductions (an approximation preserving reduction) from minimum dominating set problem for k-regular graphs to minimum monopoly problem for 2k-regular graphs and to minimum monopoly problem for (2k − 1)-regular graphs, where k 3. We also show that, for tree graphs, a minimum monopoly set can be computed in linear time. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The Minimum Monopoly Distance Energy of a Graph

In a graph G = (V,E), a set M ⊆ V is called a monopoly set of G if every vertex v ∈ V −M has at least d(v) 2 neighbors in M . The monopoly size mo(G) of G is the minimum cardinality of a monopoly set among all monopoly sets in G. In this paper, the minimum monopoly distance energy EMd(G) of a connected graphG is introduced and minimum monopoly distance energies of some standard graphs are compu...

Tree Spanners, Cayley Graphs, and Diametrically Uniform Graphs

In line with symmetrical graphs such as Cayley graphs and vertex transitive graphs, we introduce a new class of symmetrical graphs called diametrically uniform graphs. The class of diametrically uniform graphs includes vertex transitive graphs and hence Cayley graphs. A tree t-spanner of graph G is a spanning tree T in which the distance between every pair of vertices is at most t times their d...

Irreversible k-threshold and majority conversion processes on complete multipartite graphs and graph products

In graph theoretical models of the spread of disease through populations, the spread of opinion through social networks, and the spread of faults through distributed computer networks, vertices are in two states, either black or white, and these states are dynamically updated at discrete time steps according to the rules of the particular conversion process used in the model. This paper conside...

Disconnecting strongly regular graphs

In this paper, we show that the minimum number of vertices whose removal disconnects a connected strongly regular graph into non-singleton components, equals the size of the neighborhood of an edge for many graphs. These include blocks graphs of Steiner 2-designs, many Latin square graphs and strongly regular graphs whose intersection parameters are at most a quarter of their valency.

Dynamic monopolies for interval graphs with bounded thresholds

For a graph G and an integer-valued threshold function τ on its vertex set, a dynamic monopoly is a set of vertices of G such that iteratively adding to it vertices u of G that have at least τ(u) neighbors in it eventually yields the vertex set of G. We show that the problem of finding a dynamic monopoly of minimum order can be solved in polynomial time for interval graphs with bounded threshol...
